[WXBH-Discuss] Shifting Focus

Hey all!
There was a question that was posted regarding the lack of
programming and hinting that it could be the cause of the possible
dead air-- versus the stream not getting to the transmitter... well,
the question was originally answered "no", but then suggested that
the content that was secured- wasn't getting to the station in a
timely manner.
What if the focus was shifted to building an online listening group--
over air, is a great notion, but if it is a lower transmission
signal, is not not potentially getting squeezed out of the air by all
the bigger chunks of garbage floating around our city's air waves?
And it would seem such a big fight to sway people-- in their cars--
for those 20 minutes of listening time. There is satellite, iPod,
mainstream, high-powered radio. By contrast, how many people sit in
front of a desk all day long. How many people fire up the computer
and listen to tunes. I even tune into WFPK online in my home as the
FM signal that comes in is poor.
With that being said, I think for it to be successful, perhaps drop
the intention of the FM-transmission over the summer. Obviously,
kids are out of school and the daytime traffic to potentially let you
in would be severely reduced. Focus on the content, development of
personalities and a steady online stream base and maybe, just maybe,
you get everything you ever wish for!
I've been following the list for the last month and a half and well,
the project (and this is my opinion) seems to be drowning in
technicalities and overstepping the abilities of the whole-- for now....
Step back... technology should work for you, not you for it! People
are more tied to 'online' than to their FM receivers. Think of how
broad the reach of the internet, seriously, much stronger than ANY
radio transmitter I've ever heard of.
Just my two cents...
Angie
