I had a chance to talk with Jane Poole at Lojic and she said that they
do have mapping of all building heights for all of Jefferson County.
The building heights are measured in feet above sea level, which is
probably perfect for you guys. This means that you won't see the
actual height of a building, but you will know how high it is in the
landscape. A shorter building on a tall hill might be higher (which is
your real concern) than a tall building down in a valley, for example.
Anyway, Lojic charges $75 for an information dump like the one you are
looking for if you are a non-commercial enterprise. However, if you
can get a Metro Louisville official to say that the work is being done
for them, then you can get it free. The easiest avenue is probably to
work through Tom Owen's office, or if you have a connection another
councilperson, that would be good. You will need for them to make the
request to Lojic with the actual description of what you need. It
might be good if you can get the data in a "dxf" format as well as a
print-out, so that it is useable in Autocad. I can give you more info
if you have someone to work through.
So, good news, we just need to find a way to get it for free! (You
should check with your radio folks to make sure the "sea-level" heights
will work, and what the radius of the survey needs to be.
