The password is only needed to view the subscriber list (from the first 
page) or change your subscription options (on the second page).

Instead,

--on the first page, click on the button marked "Unsubscribe or edit 
options" at the very bottom (after filling in your email address in the 
field just before the button).

--on the second page, click on the button marked "Unsubscribe"

Four mouse clicks and one email address entry.

Don't be discouraged. We've actually had master's degree candidates fail 
this test. On the other hand, Paul Nevitt successfully unsubscribed from 
the discuss list yesterday after reading the instructions (he only wants 
on the tech list), so it looks like the system is working ok.

If you have any more problems with it, feel free to email me *offlist* 
and I will do it for you.
