wow... up to now i have heard nothing from folks on programming and thought that i was out in the wilderness with looking at structures of accountability, engagement in the various skill sets for DJs, techs, archivists etc.... i didnt have a chance to check the link that corey mentioned... i think it was corey... but this seems like it would be a great time to pull out all the old documentation and see what is still applicable

i have been in contact with local groups like River City Drum Corps, Youth in Radio, Beechmont Gardening Community, Farmers Markets/CFA and Louisville Arts Council... each of them has their own content which would broaden our package of content as well as bring in much needed financial components on a regular basis (i havent seen any checkbooks fly open yet but thats because we have no plan) ... now that contact has been established it is really important to set a broad foundation for asking about their resources and sharing means by which they can be of support

i dont imagine for a minute that i can coordinate group efforts of volunteers from each of these communities but i do imagine that each of us might be willing to work with them as a group and get the larger goals accomplished through organizing any assistance that they might offer willingly as a part of joining community radio

in all truth i would like to see groups like these be trained in the long term sense of programming needs to check out remote recording set ups and operate as a hand of our outreach and serve as their own governance structures within themselves to a certain degree so that we arent the maids around the house or constantly asking why we feel like babysitters... yikes...but most importantly for my view of community radio is to offer all levels of skills training and resources to expand 'efficient and effect' means of accessing media and the resources associated with such empowerment

Your imput and commentary at this point on this topic is essential to really get a full compliment of programming and diversity at the ground level of this project in my view
Please... keep a list of notes and written proposals handy for committee meetings

on another note.... at yesterdays meeting i brought up a discussion which would really serve to further our concept of getting real community involvement in programming as more than simple personal expression on the airwaves... here goes: At what point does attending a meeting or showing up to do ones show make for personal gain without real community based volunteerism... Meg and I began working on a volunteer handbook which is still in second draft condition but it clearly looks at different levels of involvement which do more than simply skillshare the personal interest factor

my take on volunteers is that all of us started somewhere and that basic interest lead us through the doors to recognize the value of having a site to work within... at that point returning on a weekly basis leads us to either take on a project approved by the larger community for bettering the site or fill a role in maintaining the 'processes already in motion'... it makes for valuable input and transfer of practical skills in action

ok... so you say to me... whats this got to do with programming?? in short i think that the content and delivery of whatever people bring to the table is their initiative but the content and real value of the 'community' aspect of radio happens before we even get to the pre-recorded Public Service Announcements and playlist filing processes associated with station maintenance and protocols required by FCC to be addressed in our training processes... it comes down to ownership of a 'controlled climate' and foundations of mutual considerations which dont have to be bureaucratic so much as they need to be regular sign-in and sign-up for action at the site...

heres what i got for you folks on the hot plate today... i have secured a volunteer electrician who can often get his supplies at a good cost as well... im thinking that he will need a workbuddy and some assistance in planning to install the hardware support for our station... this will take our tech crew and others willing to learn about city codes for wiring, how to work with the hardlines of conduit and breakerbox stuff

lets all talk about who is ready for station installation as a part of a temporary building collective effort to get the whole site ready for company to come over??

List of options for sign up to get the station secured for production....

Assist electrician at hours when he can freely volunteer to plan/install wires
Plan and develop donation base for flexible duct work to vent air conditioning
Asisst or lead a crew of volunteers in rivetting ceiling/setting donated insulation
Asisst security cam installation crew with coaxil wiring and ceiling tile replacement
Plan and implement means of securing donated/used air condenser for climate control from company who takes out old ones and puts in new ones
