[WXBH-Discuss] Principles

I don't want to sound too shitty here, but I am concerned about nitpicking
this thing to death. I am going to reccomend that we design a very formal
process for dealing with these types of issues (revisiting decisions made in
the past). I am trying to create a product here and it is getting more
complex than any individual should have to deal with. i appreciate the
comments about the brochure specifically, but lets bring these other issues
up in a meeting when someone feels it is time to discuss coming to a
consensus. I feel like this type of activity in an organization is
counterproductive and inefficient use of time and energy. People leave
volunteer organizations because the wheels keep spinning and everything is
discussed to death rather than just making a decision and taking action.
I apologize Jennifer and Corey for using this opportuntiy to highlight these
concerns, but this is wearing me out.

For the sake of making further points,
The word egalitarian is a loaded word, but if you look it up it is a very
positive word...
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/egalitarian

e·gal·i·tar·i·an Audio pronunciation of "egalitarian" ( P ) Pronunciation
Key (-gl-târ-n)
adj. Affirming, promoting, or characterized by belief in equal political,
economic, social, and civil rights for all people.

egalitarian
adj : favoring social equality; "a classless society" [syn: classless] n : a
person who believes in the equality of all people [syn: equalitarian] [ant:
elitist]

Notice the antonym for it is "elitist". If we go running from every word
that has been demonized by the right wing then we will have no principles to
stand on. We are what we are and I don't think we should shy away from that.
A mission statement is set at the beginning of a groups journey and sets its
course. i think that its important to accept that the organization has come
up with a vision. People respect those who have integrity and stand by that.
Everyone I have spoken to about underwriting, from former WRFL founders to
community leaders, have stated that we will gain and retain respect by being
clear in our beliefs.

I disagree completely with dumbing down our message because people don't
have the self respect to pick up a dictionary. Do we really want to water
WXBH down? The mission speaks to OUR intentions. The rest of our
presentation can be inviting and simplistic.

kindly, Aron

PS i will be making the changes that Jennifer suggested and will send it
back out when i can.

>Hello all. I'm inclined to agree with Corey on "egalitarian," especially
>because not everyone knows what that means. Maybe the mission statement can
>come last, after you tell people they'll get to do something, get free
>training, etc.
>
>Similarly, FCC is also not necessarily common knowlege. Maybe you can just
>say something 'laws' or 'regulations,' etc.
>
>Also, instead of WXBH requesting... How about something more along the
>lines of "what do you want to say?" or "let your voice be heard" or "we
>want to hear from you!" or "dying to get something off your chest" ....
>something like that. Something that says "you, you, you!"
>
>Also, can you make the "YOU" on the mic bigger?
>
>I wish I had time to be more specific, but I'm at work. I moved last week
>and don't yet have i-access at home. See you all soon.
>
>It looks good, Aron.
